Meldrum Bay, Manitoulin Island Meldrum Bay Marina Centre August 9-10, 2016
By the time that Liz and Kevin returned from taking care of Brandy, and Knot Sew Easy got a pump out and gas, it was noon before we got away…We won’t get in until about 7 tonight, but we felt we had to move on. Both boats are trying to catch up with friends &/or family at different places.
Dad and mom spent the last couple of days redoing their cruise schedule again…and will email it to people who have requested it…If you don’t get one in the next couple of days and you want one, text or email them to remind them.
“PLEASE REMEMBER THE SCHEDULE IS FLEXIBLE DUE TO WEATHER, BOAT OR ILLNESS ISSUES…we can’t promise we will be where we say we will be on the exact dates shown…it’s our best GUESS!”
We are rereading one of the looper books and they had to change their plans multiple times on Lake Michigan alone due to weather.
Mom was thrilled dad asked her to drive for awhile. When she was at the helm the depth reached 172’ in this part of the North Channel. We didn't see much traffic today or other signs of civilization when we left Little Current’s windmill farms behind…
Made it into Meldrum Bay Marina Centre about 6:30 and had to scramble to get things hooked up and to dinner before the Inn closed. M & D were so happy they went! One of the better meals during this trip, Mom brought me back some of her Trout Almandine while dad had whitefish. M & D had read on “Active Captain” to share desserts, so they had NY style cheesecake with orange, cardamon sauce…Incredible!
Walking up to the Inn from the Marina
The three foot high children's dollhouse out in the gardens was really quaint
Loved this funky wrap around porch on the Inn
Our Inn view looking back to the marina, sorry it was blurry, I was trying to capture all the hummingbirds coming to the feeder |
It was as delicious as it looks!!!
Meldrum Bay is one of those quiet, peaceful corners of the world tucked away from everywhere… Truly relaxing, if one wanted to stay longer than a day…
It turns out the waitress/owner was wearing an exquisite necklace made out of sterling silver and a Baroque pearl. Jill complimented her on how lovely it was. I asked who made it? It turns out it was one of Ursula’s, the German silversmith creations. I have a couple of her silver jewelry pieces that I adore and wear often. Love her artwork!!! This woman told me her daughter is now making incredible pottery & selling it in Ursula’s Manitoulin cottage/shop as well. Nice to know that she is still creating…and has passed her creativity and talent on…
When we returned to the boat after dinner, that gorgeous blue hulled wooden sailboat we had passed earlier was anchored behind us. She is just as pretty at rest.
