Chicago, Chicago, My Kind of Town!

Chicago, IL                                 Chicago Yacht Club                       October 2-4, 2016

After waiting what seemed like forever, we finally took off for the “Windy City.” Windy is the optimum word here! After both Dad and Hank checked all their weather related apps and the apps predicted at most 2-4’ swells, we were not pleasantly surprised when they turned out to be 6-8’ in the middle of the crossing! Mom and I hunkered down in the salon after securing more items as Moondance tossed about. I was NOT happy! Fortunately, as we got closer into Chicago, the swells laid down enough that mom was able to photograph as we came in…

M & D said this town never disappoints…It’s beautiful with it’s mix of old and new architecture. For us the Yacht Club is right in front of Millennium Park so we couldn’t have a better view of the city at our boat step! Dad was so tired from the cruise in that he took a good nap while mom walked me along the waterfront…YUM! Goose Poop! M & D just don’t get my affection for it!!!  Since we have to get down the rivers before the cold sets in we are cutting our visit to Chicago to two days.

After feeding me and getting cleaned up, they just went into the Yacht Club to eat. It was an early night for all of us!

After dinner our downtown Chicago view
We got up this morning to an overcast, cool day but it didn’t stop us from more walks. Including M & D’s walk to the Chicago Art Institute that was only a block away. One of their favorite art museum’s I’m told!

Thank goodness the Art Institute saved parts of this Sullivan & Adler building before it was torn down

Marc Chagall's "America's Window, (the 4 panels=Music, Painting, Theater/Writing and Dance)

Close up of the Theater panel which included the Statue of Liberty in honor of our Bicentennial

Frank Gehry's Pritzker Pavillion and BP Bridge in Millenium Park
They came back in time to take care of some business…before having dinner with mom’s college roommate, Sharon and her hubby Paul at the Chicago Union League. What an amazing old building with a fantastic art collection!!! Needless to say, the food, drink and service were superb! Thanks Sharon and Paul...we now know what are friends, the Shetter's are talking about when it comes to this place!
We got to celebrate Paul's Birthday a few days early...he is the baby of this group!

It was another early evening because M & D want to leave at daybreak to get through Chicago tomorrow…Salt Lick is short enough they can go through downtown but we have to go around which adds about 10-15 more miles. We will catch up with them by one of the locks, so we can continue to travel together down the first part of the rivers.
Joliet, here we come!!!
