Anchors Away in Annapolis

Annapolis, MD                                                      Annapolis Yacht Club                                                June 11-14, 2016

Coming across from Solomon’s Island was pretty uneventful except for a bit of rock and rollin. Lots of pretty houses sitting up on the cliffs to look at and a couple of lighthouses along the way…Started to encounter more large freighters and lots of pleasures boats since it was a Saturday. As we got close to Annapolis, it was obvious there was some type of Sailing Race or Regatta going on…Sailboats everywhere…all sizes and shapes!
Mom was going nuts trying to photograph Annapolis and the Naval Academy coming in to our Yacht Club. Turns out we are on the inside of Compromise Drawbridge, across from the burned out Yacht Club but by their Junior Sailing Fleet…Fun to see the kids learning to sail! Mom and dad scrambled to get the boat and dinner ready before Mandie, John and Becca arrived. The good news is we were able to get a quick nap in before they arrived!.
Thankfully, they brought us much needed paper towels along with some delicious Maryland beer, Flying Dog. We had such a good time catching up with them and Becca. Becca left around sun down while Mandie and John kept us up to 11:45. WOW! We laughed since we usually tend to go down fairly early! It was such a delightful luxury to have them to ourselves! They are such terrific young people and we are blessed to have them!
The next morning they left me home and walked to a local restaurant, the Boatyard Bar and Grill and had a fantastic breakfast! When they all returned, they took off in the dingy for a cruise around this very large creek and to see Annapolis and the Naval Academy from the waterside. Needless to say, they left me home once again! They said it was incredibly windy and dad had to stay to leeward to try to avoid the waves. Mom and John still came home a bit soggy. They saw incredible yachts and houses! The town itself has a dingy dock which M & D will take advantage of the next couple of days.
They spent the rest of the afternoon lazily watching the boat traffic, having a couple of beers, dozing and trying not to get blown off the flybridge with the intense gusts!!! They eventually got moving to feed me dinner before they took off in Mandie’s car for downtown and an early dinner at the Iron Rooster! What a meal! John’s was by the far the most challenging…a burger in between two waffles with bacon, an egg and cheese…how he managed to eat it as a sandwich was a mystery to the rest of us!!! After a confusing return of Mandie’s car from the valet, they brought us back to Moondance before they left. What a fun weekend!!! I was bummed…no leftovers!

Mom and dad are moving slow this morning as they listen to the sad news about the Orlando terrorist attack this weekend and get some boat stuff accomplished. I’m guessing they will be off soon for Annapolis tours…
