Not So Nice New Jersey Coast!

Arnold’s Brielle Yacht Club Marina                        Manasquan Inlet, Brielle, NJ                            June 24-27, 2016

Wow! Yesterday did not go well! Holy Smokes!!! After waiting through an early morning shower, both boats rechecked the weather  & wind reports, all looked good, so we took off…It started out smoothly enough and then, it turned to HELL in a heartbeat around Atlantic City, NJ…Mom and I went down to the salon. She checked to see if everything was secure since we were pitching badly! Turns out she missed our dish cabinet, so one of the few ceramic dishes & cups on the boat went flying and smashed all over the galley and salon…She was having a devil of a time, keeping me out of the mess and cleaning it up with the boat rolling around…Dad and mom were talking to each other via their radios…He decided to continue to navigate from the flybridge much to our dismay!…After about 6 hours of this fight Kevin on Lone Star realized we would get into Sandy Hook after dark without anywhere to anchor or stay…not a good plan! So, she started calling around and got both of us into Arnold’s Brielle Yacht Club. What a lifesaver!!! We were all exhausted and couldn’t get in here fast enough. Lone Star was able to tie up easily at their dock, but they decided to have us back in…Another nightmare!!! The tides were going out and the wind gusts were strong…It took the dockhand, mom, Steve, Kevin & finally dad (when he shutdown the engine) to get us tied up…The tides here are so extreme that Steve and Kevin returned to their boat and realized with low tide, Lone Star was sitting on the bottom. We are going to help them flip their boat around today.

Fortunately, mom had put a roast in the crockpot and had potatoes ready, so after cleaning up our boats and ourselves…in a very short time we had a meal ready for us. Steve and Kevin joined us for comfort food which we all needed after that ordeal! Dad told us he checked the wind advisor and the report changed to 24-30 mile per hour gusts with 6 - 8’ swells…with us sitting in the trough! YIKES!!!…Both of our boats handled the seas well, so none of us felt we were in danger…it’s just so exhausting getting thrown around like that even when you are sitting down. Mom sat down on the floor to hold me. If we needed stuff, she scooted around on her bottom…That was funny to watch!

We will have dinner tonight with Kevin & Steve & at least one other looper couple from TX. If all goes well, we will have lunch with one of dad's USS John King friends, Tony and Joan Matteo. It turns out they live 10 minutes from here. So maybe we do a bit of photographing of this place?
We leave tomorrow with a far, better weather report to go to Liberty Landing in NJ across from the Statue of Liberty. We will be there until Weds. Pam and Hersh are suppose to meet us there on Monday to travel with us for a few days as we go up the Hudson River. We are excited to meet with Tarynn, Brian & Addison… as well  & get our packages we had sent there.
                                                                Photos  & video coming...

The little sailors out in the craziness...I guess the idea is to teach them early how to manage?

This video is not at the height of what we went through but the beginning of it getting rough...
