The Ditch

So excited to see Greg again this morning. He is going with us for the day to help us get through two of the locks on the Okeechobee Waterway system. It’s a gorgeous day and I’m getting more use to the boat again. I feel much calmer today! Ft. Myer’s was really pretty as we passed it!!! We had a school of dolphins following in our wake…just having a good ole time. It almost seemed like they were checking us out?
Mom finally made us breakfast, but she ended up cooking the eggs in a skillet in the bathroom? Something about tripping the breakers? She sure is nutty!
Made it through our first of 102 locks on the Great Loop, The Franklin Lock. The lock master , (SHE WHO MUST BE OBEYED) was really nice. It wasn’t much of a lift…about 4’ total. On the other side of the locks was this really pretty beach and park. We went through this bucolic area with lots of ranches and just incredibly large, fancy houses and boats…somewhere around Albin, FL. They all kept talking about “Ponderosa”  FL style! Made it through the Ortona Locks around 2:30 and despite reports of closing we were able to get right in. These locks rose about 8’ so it gave everyone’s arms a good workout!!! So far, they win the award for the least helpful lock personnel! One hundred locks to go…Whoopee!!!

So happy to hear them saying that we are stopping at Moorehaven City Docks. We will have traveled over 70 miles today, that’s more than enough for me! I really have to GO!!! I’m just NOT feeling the sod or artificial grass yet! A very sad looking town but the people are friendly…I got lots of pats!!! Mom, dad and Greg left me to go to “Adam’s Angler”, a true dive bar if there ever was one, as I heard them say… “They cooked a decent burger and as advertised, the beer was COLD!”  As they were walking me around afterwards, a darling family asked if their Senior could have her Senior photos taken on Moondance. Mom and dad said sure!
An interesting end to the day…
Coming into another lock

Loved Moore Haven's tiny City Hall right by the docks

It's like a Dr. Seuss building
