Old Times Revisited

Leaving yesterday  AM was much easier than arriving since the winds hadn’t blown up yet. Ray, the HRYC assistant dock master was there to help us shove off. Good guy!
Not so much traffic on the ICW yesterday which makes mom and dad’s lives easier driving and navigating. M & D were really nervous about the shifting shoals and tidal ranges around Fort Matanzas…they had read about it.
That area definitely lived up to its hype…one trawler was grounded there waiting for the tides to rise which dad didn't think was going to happen?!
To make it more difficult, some fisherman and his wife in a flats boat had anchored in the middle of this very narrow, shifting channel. What was more insane, she was videotaping us coming so close to them instead of helping us out and getting out of our way!!! Even I was astounded!!!
Just as we were anchoring at St. Augustine, we saw Don Williams and Drew pull up in The Scotsman to refuel at the Marina docks… Fun to see them for a few minutes before they moved on!
M & D were on a mission to go eat at their favorite Cuban/Spanish restaurant, Columbia, so they left me after I ate my dinner. Dad told mom that he is so excited to be in this city for the 3rd time in 60+ years…having first come with his family when he was a kid. I get the distinct impression, I’m going to be able to catch up on my naps while we are here!
Here's Don with us in front of Moondance.

So much of this northern Florida area reminded us of the Outer Banks of the Carolinas

Lily stayed close by her fan most of the trip!

Coming into St. Augustine, wind and tides made landing more challenging. Thank Goodness for Dock Hands!

You can see the famous Lion Bridge opening.

Another view of St. Augustine Harbor

Some of the pretty smaller areas along the Palm Coast

Here's just one of the areas that reminded us of the Carolinas...

On the other side of this bridge is the Atlantic Ocean

Dunes and shifting tides and shoals are everywhere...Beautiful but very treacherous!

Looking at people's docks made us realize how great the tidal surges are here...

Not sure if this was a house or what?
Obviously, these fishermen weren't worrying about big fishes in the water...
The Black Raven the pirate ship right by us in the marina...
